Empowering Africa’s Future: A University Lecture on Peace in Africa.

We are thrilled to share the successful University Lecture on Peace in Africa, organized by Local Youth Corner Cameroon, where our dynamic Executive Director, Dr. Sally Mboumien, had the honor of moderating a pivotal panel discussion. This event was an important platform to discuss the pressing issue of child recruitment and explore the critical role that government policies can play in protecting the future of Africa’s youth.

The discussion was filled with rich insights and meaningful contributions from a distinguished panel of experts and policymakers, all of whom are deeply committed to building a peaceful and prosperous Africa. Dr. Sally Mboumien, known for her steadfast dedication to social change and advocacy for youth empowerment, steered the conversation with poise and expertise, emphasizing the urgent need for strong, child-centered policies

One of the central themes of the discussion was the importance of creating and enforcing government policies that actively protect children from recruitment into armed conflict. Dr. Sally and other panelists outlined how such policies are not only necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of children, but they are also essential to the long-term peace and stability of African nations.

As Dr. Mboumien shared her insights, it became clear that protecting children must be at the core of any efforts to build sustainable peace in Africa. She highlighted how policies can help shield children from exploitation, combat radicalization, and provide support systems for reintegration into society.

By ensuring that children are protected from recruitment, African countries can break the cycle of violence and build a generation that will work toward lasting peace and prosperity. Dr. Sally emphasized that the responsibility falls not only on governments but also on communities, organizations, and individuals to work together in creating a safe environment for children.

The message was clear: policies that protect children today will pave the way for a brighter, peaceful, and prosperous future. The panel also discussed the need to raise awareness about child rights and the implications of armed conflicts on children, especially in areas prone to violence.

As the lecture continued, Dr. Sally’s perspective resonated deeply with the audience. She stressed that Africa’s future lies in the hands of young people, and we must equip them with the right resources, education, and opportunities to lead the continent towards peace. Through collaborative action and effective policymaking, Africa can ensure that its youth are protected, empowered, and prepared to face the challenges ahead.

The event concluded with an inspiring call to action for all participants to continue the fight against child recruitment and to ensure that peacebuilding efforts are inclusive, sustainable, and centered around the needs of the most vulnerable – our children. Dr. Sally’s leadership in moderating the discussion served as a powerful reminder of the role that every individual and organization has in fostering peace and protecting the rights of children across the continent.

At the heart of these conversations was the realization that policy change is essential for building a better Africa, where children are able to grow in safe environments, receive education, and thrive without the fear of violence. This lecture was a vital step toward achieving that vision, and we are proud of the work that Local Youth Corner Cameroon is doing in driving these important conversations forward.

As Dr. Sally Mboumien concluded, policies that protect children are not just important for today, but they are the foundation for building a better, peaceful Africa for tomorrow and forever. Through our collective efforts, we can shape a continent where every child has the opportunity to live a life free from conflict, a life filled with hope, and a future where peace reigns.
