At COMAGEND Cameroon, we continue to make strides in addressing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and tackling gender-based violence (GBV) through our innovative Drama Therapy for Advocacy initiative. This approach has proven to be an impactful and transformative tool, creating waves of positive change across different communities.

Drama therapy is more than just a medium of entertainment; it is a catalyst for awareness and transformation. By incorporating storytelling, role-playing, and interactive performances, this initiative highlights pressing issues like toxic masculinity, its role in perpetuating GBV, and the need for a community-wide shift toward gender equity.
Through carefully curated scripts and engaging performances, drama therapy encourages communities to reflect on their attitudes and behaviors, sparking meaningful conversations and actionable solutions. This participatory approach not only educates but also empowers individuals to become advocates for change in their own lives and surroundings.

As part of the project team, there is a unique sense of satisfaction and purpose in seeing the tangible impact of our advocacy strategies. Communities are beginning to embrace healthier narratives around gender roles, fostering mutual respect and understanding. The visible reduction in harmful practices and the increase in community dialogue on SRHR and GBV are testaments to the success of this initiative.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Ngwengu Sharon, whose dedication and expertise as the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officer have been integral to the success of this project. Sharon’s meticulous analysis and commitment to ensuring that our strategies are targeted and effective have made all the difference. By aligning our advocacy efforts with the specific needs of the communities we serve, she has ensured that our work is impactful and sustainable.
Our focus on SRHR advocacy is rooted in the belief that access to information, education, and services related to reproductive health is a fundamental right. Drama therapy allows us to bridge gaps in knowledge, challenge stigmas, and encourage open discussions about these critical issues.
Addressing toxic masculinity is another cornerstone of our advocacy. Through drama, we explore the harmful expectations placed on men and boys, the implications for women and girls, and the steps needed to dismantle these norms. By encouraging men and boys to participate in these conversations, we are fostering an inclusive approach to combating GBV and creating safer environments for all.

The journey of advocacy is ongoing, but the results we’ve witnessed through Drama Therapy for Advocacy fuel our determination to do more. We are excited about expanding this initiative to reach more communities, empower more individuals, and drive systemic change.
We invite partners, collaborators, and supporters to join us in amplifying the impact of this innovative approach. Together, we can create a world where every individual, regardless of gender, lives free from violence, with access to the rights and opportunities they deserve.
